In April 2024, Widex introduced the SmartRIC hearing aid range featuring a new slim L-shaped Receiver in Canal (RIC) design. Because the Widex SmartRIC 440 hearing aids are at the premium technology level, they will include the full feature set this range has to offer.
For example, they will offer all the sound processing features, such as wind noise reduction, speech enhancement, 15 adjustment bands for sound personalisation, and 11 background sound analysis settings. These are used by your audiologist to tailor your listening experience. SmartRIC 440 hearing aids are ideal for regular travellers, those who socialise often, and those who have mild to severe hearing loss.
Powered by the Moment platform chip, this innovation includes strategically positioned microphones to enhance directionality and focus, particularly in speech targeting. With SmartRIC 440 hearing aids, Widex revolutionises sound capture, promising even more natural sound reproduction. This technology ensures access to desired voices and sounds while optimising focus where it's most needed.
The redesigned shape, for SmartRIC 440, positions the hearing aid microphones horizontally, enhancing directionality and improving the signal-to-noise ratio in challenging environments. Compared to the Widex Sheer Moment, this new configuration enhances engagement in social settings by improving hearing effectiveness in background noise.
The Widex SmartRIC 440 hearing aids feature updated microphone covers, minimising wind noise by 20 decibels and improving handling noise by 88%, ensuring more comfortable hearing experiences.
Widex Speech Enhancer: Keep your focus sharp during conversations with this feature. This advanced system swiftly detects speech, enhancing the desired signal while adapting sound processing in various environments. By minimising distracting background noise without sacrificing speech clarity, it ensures you stay engaged in every interaction.
Widex PureSound with ZeroDelay technology: Widex SmartRIC 440 hearing aids maintain their core technology, incorporating the established PureSound and ZeroDelay features. This combination ensures fast sound processing, eliminating artificial sounds and delays.
In the past, many hearing aids delivered an unnatural listening experience, with sounds being out of sync. While some may generalise this as "artificial," it's rare for individuals to detect digital echo or delay, especially with Widex Sheer Moment devices. Most wearers cannot discern any difference in speed from their previous devices, attributing Widex's success to its natural sound quality.
Widex SmartRIC 440 hearing aids are rechargeable, ensuring reliable performance with an impressive 37-hour battery life on a single charge. Equipped with 5 days of portable charging power, they offer up to 37 hours of use without streaming (27 hours with 8 hours of streaming).
Providing approximately 7 days of charge with the portable charger—perfect for getaways, particularly in locations with limited access to power outlets, such as campsites. Other features include a sleek and stylish design, an enclosed battery, and galvanic charging.
WIDEX TV PLAY: Seamlessly delivers TV audio directly to your hearing aids, ensuring an enhanced viewing experience.
WIDEX SOUND ASSIST: Serves multiple functions, acting as a microphone for meetings and family gatherings, allowing remote control of hearing aids, facilitating hands-free calls, and enabling audio streaming. It also features a telecoil function.
WIDEX SOUNDCONNECT: Enables high-quality audio streaming from personal computers and laptops.
WIDEX MOMENT APP: Compatible with both Android and iPhone, wearers can control their hearing aid functions and settings. The hearing aid app includes MySound for personalised sound adjustments and My Guide for helpful tips and advice. Other compatible accessories include TV-DEX, COM-DEX, and RC-DEX.
Colours available: There are five colours available in this hearing aid range, these are tech black, dark cherry, honey blonde, silver grey, and rose gold.

If you have significant hearing loss in both ears, you should be wearing two hearing aids. Here are the audiological reasons why:
Localisation: The brain decodes information from both ears and compares and contrasts them. By analysing the minuscule time delays as well as the difference in the loudness of each sound reaching the ears, the person is able to accurately locate a sound source. Simply put, if you have better hearing on one side than the other, you can't accurately tell what direction sounds are coming from.
Less amplification is required: A phenomenon known as “binaural summation” means that the hearing aids can be set at a lower and more natural volume setting than if you wore only one hearing aid.
Head shadow effect: High frequencies, the part of your hearing that gives clarity and meaning to speech sounds, cannot bend around your head. Only low frequencies can. Therefore if someone is talking on your unaided side you are likely to hear that they are speaking, but be unable to tell what they have said.
Noise reduction: The brain has its own built-in noise reduction which is only really effective when it is receiving information from both ears. If only one ear is aided, even with the best hearing aid in the world, it will be difficult for you to hear in background noise as your brain is trying to retain all of the sounds (including background noise) rather than filtering it out.
Sound quality: We are designed to hear in stereo. Only hearing from one side sounds a lot less natural to us.
