Launched in September 2023, the focus for Signia's Integrated Xperience hearing aids (IX) was highlighting the power of conversation being the heart of hearing. All are made possible with personalised enhancements, giving wearers the freedom to engage, contribute, and interact with confidence.
This is even more prevalent in conversations within noisy social environments. You might be thinking that this is what a hearing aid should do anyway - help you to hear better. But, it's more than hearing better - it's giving conversation the focus it deserves.
Allowing them to be dynamic, lively, and alter. This is maintained wherever you are and whether you are facing the person you are talking to or not.
Signia is one of the first brands to launch a rechargeable Completely in Canal (CIC) hearing aid. Plus, at the time of release, the IX also introduces the world's first for successfully detected moving speakers.
Signia uses RealTime Conversation Enhancement technology - their new way of analysing a conversation and processing speech. A unique technology that analyses, augments, and adapts according to your soundscape.
Signia states that their RealTime Conversation Enhancement, introduced in Integrated Xperience hearing aids, is a breakthrough technology designed to keep up with conversations.
On this page, we touch on the onboard advanced hearing aid technology making natural and effortless conversations a reality. We take a look at the features and benefits to help you decide whether this hearing aid range might be the right fit for you.
It's a pretty big statement, but if the Signia IX hearing aids do what Signia promises, you're going to enjoy prominent speech in all social scenes that will evolve as conversations do.
Analyses: Taking 192,000 data points (per second) into consideration, Signia IX hearing aids can understand the environment you're in as well as the people you are talking to.
Augments: It puts the focus on all the voices of everyone you are talking to, so you can hear them clearly amongst the background noise.
Adjusts: This is done easily 1000 times per second as the conversation adapts and moves, so you can enjoy taking part and not miss any spoken word.
Signia IX hearing aids supersede the Signia AX hearing aid platform and run all the same features of the AX but with a few developments in tow. Developments that portray what it takes to hear easily, particularly in those social group settings.
Group conversations amongst background noise are one of the many hindrances that those with hearing loss have to navigate. Hearing, understanding, and participating in noise is far from easy even in quiet environments - add a host of voices and background noise and suddenly it all becomes quite overwhelming.
Developed off the back of Signia's Augmented Focus processing, first seen in Signia AX, this new technology brings beamforming to the next level. It figures out what environment you're in, detects those around you who are talking (even on the move or changing positions), and delivers a live auditory experience - adapting in real-time to match the sporadic nature of conversations.
With RealTime Conversation Enhancement technology, Signia is saying that it shouldn't be enough to get by with being able to hear and understand conversations, but also being able to actively contribute and share amongst colleagues, family and friends. That is the ticket to successful group conversations.
There are more advanced apps out there that can help personalise your hearing in the moment, but conversations are dynamic and aren't predestined or controlled. This is where RealTime Conversation Enhancement comes in. Now you can access the support, without tapping any buttons, when you want to feel and participate in conversation. It's automatically done for you - how refreshing is that?
A huge element, for many, to understand and feel a part of the conversation (even hearing better in general) is how clear and natural your own voice is. We know how good talking to other people is for keeping our brains active and sharp, with Signia's OVP 2.0 you can now enjoy your own voice experience that sounds "just right".
This ultimately supports more engagement in conversation, making it feel easier and more natural - giving you the confidence to simply chat more.

The launch of Signia's Integrated Xperience (IX) hearing aids in September 2023 appears to show significant development in hearing aid technology. Here are some key features and aspects that make Signia IX hearing aids unique:
Rechargeable options: Signia IX hearing aids offer a range of rechargeable hearing aids, including completely In the Ear canal devices and Behind-the-Ear solutions. Having multiple rechargeable options can provide convenience for users who no longer need to worry about replacing disposable batteries.
Extended battery life: The mention of up to 36 hours of charge on a single charge for some Behind-the-Ear solutions is impressive. Extended battery life can be especially valuable for users who need their hearing aids to last throughout the day.
RealTime Conversation Enhancement: Signia's IX hearing aids are designed to address a common challenge faced by individuals with hearing loss – participating in group conversations in noisy environments. This is a critical feature because social interactions and conversations are vital for well-being and cognitive health.
Voice identification and noise reduction: The standout feature of Signia IX hearing aids appears to be the ability to identify and lock onto the voice of each person in a conversation while reducing background noise. This technology could significantly improve the user's ability to hear and understand multiple speakers in noisy settings, such as parties or other gatherings.
Enhanced social engagement: By enhancing speech and reducing background noise in real-time, Signia IX hearing aids have the potential to boost the confidence of hearing aid wearers in social situations. This can help users actively engage, interact, and contribute to conversations, rather than feeling like passive observers.
Are Signia hearing aids waterproof?: Signia IX hearing aids have an IP68 rating, indicating they are resistant to dust and moisture. They can withstand submersion in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes without sustaining damage.
How do I turn on my Signia hearing aids?: Press and hold the pushbutton on either hearing aid for a few seconds, then release it. A short jingle will play, indicating that the hearing aid has powered on or off. If the hearing aids have two buttons ('up' and 'down'), holding down either button will also work.
Signia hearing aids and iPhone, what's the connection like?: The Signia IX hearing aids are MFI (Made for iPhone) and support the ASHA protocol (Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids), enabling them to connect to Android devices. To listen to music or a caller's voice through your hearing aids from your phone, ensure your device is on Signia's device compatibility list.
The Pure Charge&Go IX hearing aids offer versatility and would accommodate a wide range of hearing losses (mild to profound), especially with a custom-made tip. The Silk is a little more selective and best suited for mild to moderate losses. For example, those with age-related or high-frequency hearing loss.
If you need to address single-sided hearing loss, both the Pure Charge&Go and Silk IX offer CROS models. These hearing aids allow the hearing aid to pick up sound from your quieter side and send it to your hearing side, giving you a 360-degree soundscape.
The Styletto IX hearing aids are a great option for those with mild to severe hearing loss looking for a full-featured, rechargeable Bluetooth hearing aid. Offering style and reliability for the design-conscious user with successful features to navigate environments with multiple speakers.
The Signia IX hearing aid platform offers three technology levels: 7IX, 5IX, and 3IX. The 7X, being the premium performance level, naturally offers more advanced and realistic sound processing abilities.
If you are tempted by the Signia IX hearing aids, we recommend opting for the highest level you can afford to ensure the best possible hearing experience. The advanced features of the 7IX can significantly enhance your ability to hear and enjoy sounds naturally. Here are some quick comparisons:
Overall, Signia IX hearing aids seem to represent a significant advancement in addressing the challenges faced by individuals with hearing loss, particularly in noisy group settings. The ability to improve the quality of group conversations is a valuable contribution to the field of hearing aid technology and can have a positive impact on users' overall quality of life.

If you have a significant hearing loss in both ears, you should be wearing two hearing aids. Here are the audiological reasons why:
Localisation. The brain decodes information from both ears and compares and contrasts them. By analysing the miniscule time delays as well as the difference in loudness of each sound reaching the ears, the person is able to accurately locate a sound source. Simply put, if you have better hearing on one side than the other, you can't accurately tell what direction sounds are coming from.
Less amplification required. A phenomena known as “binaural summation” means that the hearing aids can be set at a lower and more natural volume setting than than if you wore only one hearing aid.
Head shadow effect. High frequencies, the part of your hearing that gives clarity and meaning to speech sounds, cannot bend around your head. Only low frequencies can. Therefore if someone is talking on your unaided side you are likely to hear that they are speaking, but be unable to tell what they have said.
Noise reduction. The brain has it’s own built in noise reduction which is only really effective when it is receiving information from both ears. If only one ear is aided, even with the best hearing aid in the world, it will be difficult for you to hear in background noise as your brain is trying to retain all of the sounds (including background noise) rather than filtering it out.
Sound quality. We are designed to hear in stereo. Only hearing from one side sounds a lot less natural to us.
For most people, the main benefit of a rechargeable hearing aid is simple convenience. We are used to plugging in our phones and other devices overnight for them to charge up.
For anybody with poor dexterity or issues with their fingers, having a rechargeable aid makes a huge difference as normal hearing aid batteries are quite small and some people find them fiddly to change.
One downside is that if you forget to charge your hearing aid, then it is a problem that can't be instantly fixed. For most a 30 minute charge will get you at least two or three hours of hearing, but if you are the type of person who is likely to forget to plug them in regularly then you're probably better off with standard batteries.
Rechargeable aids are also a little bit bigger and are only available in behind the ear models.
Finally, just like with a mobile phone, the amount of charge you get on day one is not going to be the same as you get a few years down the line. Be sure to ask what the policy is with the manufacturer warranty when it comes to replacing the battery.
For most people, the answer is yes. But it's never that simple.
The majority of hearing problems affect the high frequencies a lot more than the low ones. Therefore open fitting hearing aids sound a lot more natural and ones that block your ears up can make your own voice sound like you are talking with your head in a bucket. Therefore in-ear aids tend to be less natural.
However the true answer is we can't tell until we have had a look in your ears to assess the size of your ear canal, and until we have tested your hearing to see which frequencies are being affected.
People with wider ear canals tend to have more flexibility, also there are open fitting modular CIC hearing aids now that do not block your ears.
There is also the age old rule to consider, that a hearing aid will not help you if it's sat in the drawer gathering dust. If the only hearing aid you would be happy wearing is one that people can't see, then that's what you should get.
Most people can adapt to any type of hearing aid, as long as they know what to expect. Have an honest conversation with your audiologist as to what your needs are.
Generally speaking, six or more. Unless it's none at all.
The number of channels a hearing aid has is often a simplistic way an audiologist will use to explain why one hearing aid is better than another, but channels are complex and it is really not that straightforward.
Hearing aids amplify sounds of different frequencies by different amounts. Most people have lost more high frequencies than low and therefore need more amplification in the high frequencies. The range of sounds you hear are split into frequency bands or channels and the hearing aids are set to provide the right amount of hearing at each frequency level.
Less than six channels and this cannot be done with much accuracy, so six is the magic number. However, a six channel aid is typically very basic with few other features and is suitable only for hearing a single speaker in a quiet room. The number of channels is not what you should be looking at, it's more the rest of the technology that comes with them.
As a final note, different manufacturers have different approaches. One method is not necessarily better than any other. For example some manufacturers have as many as 64 channels in their top aids. Most tend to have between 17 and 20. One manufacturer has no channels at all.
Hearing aids are easily lost, misplaced or damaged and typically are one of the most expensive personal possessions an individual can own. We offer hearing aid warranty cover for £80 per year per aid. Find out more here
