2024 Update: This hearing aid range is now superseded. View newer more advanced Starkey models here
The Starkey Evolv AI hearing aid range launched towards the end of January 2022 - making this family their new flagship product. This range also supersedes the Starkey Livio AI hearing aid range.
Evolv AI was designed to give wearers a complete device range to suit everyone, including a wireless CIC-style hearing aid and five technology levels. To date, only Starkey and Widex have been the brands to offer a full range in one go.
The BTE styles and custom products are available in both traditional and rechargeable battery options. Other than the non-wireless styles, all the Starkey Evolv AI hearing aids are Bluetooth enabled - even the discreet CIC (Bluetooth CIC to be launched in the UK later this year).

This 'healthable' concept was first seen in Starkey's 2018 Livio AI hearing aid range, now Evolv AI's predecessor, and since then they have developed this wellness approach. But, how does this help with your hearing and overall health?
This wellness approach reflects the continued research and development of the impacts hearing loss has on overall health. If we put this into perspective, even older adults with mild hearing loss are almost tripling the risk of having a fall. Unfortunately, statistics show that hearing loss can result in depression, cognitive decline and social withdrawal.
The healthable technology within Evolv AI tackles these issues by helping those with hearing loss to simply hear better as well as offering the tools to put social stimulation and other activity goals in place.
The Starkey Sound is based on science algorithms that are modeled by your brain's auditory system - giving you optimum sound. But, what does this actually mean? How can it help your hearing?
The brain naturally suppresses background noise and increases speech automatically. Because Evolv AI mirrors this using Machine Learning (a very smart artificial intelligence technology) - you gain from a high-quality filtered sound experience.
Starkey Evolv AI digital hearing aids, like those of the superseded Livio AI hearing aids, include motion sensors used to track and store data of your device usage and your actual movement. This technology is smart enough to know when you have fallen and alerts someone out of your designated contact list of the accident and provides a GPS location.
With Starkey Evolv AI hearing aids the original Fall Alert feature is now available at all performance levels. Why is this a good thing? It means that no matter what your budget is - you will benefit from this feature. You can gain from the confidence of knowing that you will have help when you need it the most, in real-time, and your loved ones have peace of mind when you are out and about.
There are other built-in features within the device and the mobile app, like remote hearing care and language translation services, but what are the main improvements of the Evolv AI when compared to that of the Livio AI?
As we stated above, this feature has been improved upon since its predecessor. It offers more refined problem solving adjustments in real-time, based on the listening environment you are in. How does this feature benefit you?
Adjustments such as more gain or successful noise reductions ultimately leads to better clarity and comfort in sound. We think this would be ideal in challenging environments on the go. It is also conveniently fixed in this personalised setting until you manually change the settings or restart your hearing aids.
This is the mobile app that offers various settings and controls to make your hearing experience easier and more personable. It also includes data about your hearing aids and how you use them as well as the ability to control volume, programs and equalisers.
The app itself scores your wellness everyday based on your personal data out of 200. The engagement score is broken down into hourly use, social interaction and environment. To simplify this, if you find yourself in listening environments that are more challenging rather than quieter soundscapes during the day your wellness score will be higher.
The activity score is based on how often you stand, exercise and how many steps you have taken in your day. There are obvious manipulations here, as not everyone can reach the default goal of 10,000 steps a day!
Why would this benefit you? The main purpose of this app is to help you understand your activity and engagement better. Setting your own wellness goals helps you to socialise more, be more active and keep your brain sharp.
This is Starkey Evolv AI's remote fitting support within the Thrive app. Using this you can book an appointment with your audiologist and partake in a remote video in the comfort of your own home. Ideal if the logistics of getting to audiology appointments is an issue.
Use this feature in the Thrive app to set reminders, find your phone, change programs and more - your very own digital PA! If you have a cloud account, you can also use it like you would Siri and Alexa and ask questions and search.
You can choose a language to translate. Ideal if you travel a lot or need translation resources for business trips, as there are around twenty seven languages available to access. This is only available at the top technology level.
Using AI technology, this speech enhancing feature uses your iPhone to provide an unprecedented hearing experience. Ideal for those with moderate hearing loss of around 50 db HL or greater.
Use Tinnitus support features to relieve symptoms and spikes in your tinnitus on the go.
You can record your steps taken, track movement and monitor your daily activities and exercise. Keeping you moving and stimulated.
When you are actively listening, this feature monitors and records the health benefits of wearing your hearing aids.
Whatever style you choose from, the Evolv AI hearing aid range will connect with iOS and Android devices and mobiles. However, if you have an older smartphone, you might need an accessory. The Thrive Hearing Control app runs on all versions of iOS 14 or 15 and for Android 7.0 and higher.
With the Starkey Evolv AI hearing aids - the microphones pick up your voice and streams it directly back to your smartphone for true hands-free calls without accessories. This is only available with iPhones and iPads, not Android devices.
This gives you more control of your hearing aids with just a double tap of your fingers. You can stop/start/pause streaming, initiate voice commands in the top three technology levels, as well as accessing the Edge Mode - in just the top performance level. However, you can't answer or reject calls from this feature.
Create various bespoke memories or 'geo tag' your common environments like 'home' and 'coffee shop'. So when you are in a similar environment, your hearing aids can adjust automatically to give you the best listening experience.
Recognises when you have fallen and sends a message to a designated person of the accident along with a GPS signal. Giving peace of mind to your loved ones and giving you the help you need in real-time.
Offers a brief rundown of your device's performance, like battery power. So you keep your hearing aids in optimum condition and the confidence you need knowing you will not run out of the power you need.

This hearing aid is sophisticated and powered by AI technology, therefore the price reflects this. Whilst there are some improvements and additions in this new range, like the wireless CIC and existing features being available throughout all technology levels - you need to ask whether it is practical for you? Or is it just a cool hearing you won't get full use out of?
But, if you want a greater scope of features, then this could be the hearing aid for you. Also, if you are attempting to improve your general health ie. wellness, activity and social engagement then, yes, this hearing aid should be a consideration.
We love how the top performance level, the Evolv AI 2400, gives you 24 adjustment bands to tailor-make your sound specifically and alter reductions in noise, wind and more. In short, you have the freedom to do more and access more.
The fall alerts could be beneficial if you have issues with balance along with providing peace of mind for your family and friends. But, you need to bear in mind that you will need a smartphone capable of utilising the app's high-tech features to gain full access and advantages here.
If you have a specific budget, the lower the technology, the lower the price. But, you do miss out on quite a few of the features that make this hearing aid unique, with the biggest drop being in the Evolv AI 1200. Hence why, if you can, go for the highest technology you can reasonably afford in this hearing aid range - avoiding leaving any potential benefits off the table.
We would always recommend that you discuss the features vs the benefits of Starkey Evolv AI hearing aids with your audiologist. They will determine which performance level you will benefit the most from with your hearing needs in mind that will maximise the performance. They will also discuss whether this hearing aid is ultimately right for you
